What to Wear for Your Photos
WARM & EARTHY
Think warm browns, muted rust, soft tans, and natural tones for a cozy, rich look that photographs beautifully.
HELPFUL TIPS &
THINGS TO AVOID
NUETRAL & TIMELESs
Soft creams, warm whites, and classic neutrals create a light, effortless look that never goes out of style.
COOL MODERN
Shades of blue paired with crisp whites create a fresh, clean palette that feels relaxed and effortlessly coordinated.
Balance Textures
Here’s a photo of me and my parents, and you can see there’s a lot happening with the colors and textures! Mixing textures can add beautiful depth to your photos, but too many competing colors or fabrics can make outfits feel busy.
Try this instead: Choose 2–4 complementary colors and mix in just a few subtle textures, like knits, linen, or denim. This keeps everyone's outfits coordinated without feeling too busy and lets the focus stay on the people and the connection between them.
Coordinate but don't match
Here’s a photo of my in-laws and nephew from a larger family session. When everyone wears similar shades, it can be hard to tell people apart, especially without lighter tones to break things up.
Try this instead: Mix 3–4 complementary colors, combining lighter shades like cream with deeper tones to add contrast while keeping everyone coordinated.
Keep It Simple
Here’s an impromptu photo of my family on Easter. Without time to coordinate outfits, the bright colors, busy patterns, and bold shoes compete for attention and pull your eyes away from our faces.
Try this instead: choose a few complementary colors, mix in solids, and keep shoes simple so the focus stays on the people and connection in your photos.
